Yes we did

I know many people are probably going to blog on this, and I know I'm not the first but I am proud. I'm proud to belong to a country that has not only found hope, but brought it to the surface. I'm ecstatic to be apart of history, to know that I can live to say something significant (positive and significant) has happened. A few years ago my brother and I discussed that we had no Moon landing, we didn't defeat Hitler,or over come segregation and now we have it. We have the moon, we've landed into a new era. One that will hopefully bring us back to the American dream. this is not only a great day for all African-American (which it is), but for all those that have fought, and are tired of the struggle. This day is for those that believe, not only in change but in greatness. I've always heard how great America was, but I never experienced the love for this country as I have as of now, and this love will carry on for years to come. Because now I know that we, as a nation, are capable of anything. Obama is our President of the united States of America. WE wanted change we got change and we will continue to see change come. Yes we can, Yes we did, but moreover Yes We Will.

This marks a monumental turning point in the United States’ history. For years, people have debated if oppression due to race was over. Last year, the Jena 6 case brought out the best and worst in groups. Thousands of people took buses down south to protest. Thousands of other people up held that it was “just the way things were done” down there. Intellectuals debated how far America had come since slavery. Had things actually changed in real life or only in the books? Obama’s election as President has shown that a large part of the nation is ready for change. Some of the southern states will no doubt be unhappy with the situation, but there have not been cries for secession. How the country will handle having a black president will be analyzed in textbooks for centuries to come. Hopefully, the texts will say that the country handled the momentous occasion as if any other person had been elected. No special treatments, no grand flare, just another president come to take care of business.

Its true Obama winning the election is historical and exciting. In reality i dont think that peoples opinions on how Obama will create change is firmly grounded in fact. Its true he brings a different view to the table but i question whether or not all young Obama supporters have even done any research on the issues and viewpoints of either former canidates. With all due respect I dont believe Obama will solve everything or bring back the American dream. The American dream only exists where people have had faith in our country even through the last 8 years, bad politcal choices, and the econmoic crisis. Basically, its the people that make America not just our President.
